Screen-printed t-shirts are an excellent way to advertise your company. The typical t-shirt screen printing process begins by making a making a stencil(s) out of your black and white design. A screen is then created for each color in your design, and each screen is blocked, taped, and setup.
The actual t-shirt screenprinting process occurs by allowing ink to go through some open mesh that is blocked off according to the artwork to be printed. These screens are often made of very thick synthetic or metallic material stretched on a rigid frame. There are various methods of blocking the mesh. In some cases, a rubber squeegee spreads a small quantity of ink on the screen. The ink goes then through the screen and prints the desired artwork onto the t-shirt and does not print on the blocked areas.
Screen Printing ink consists of four major components: Oil (for the base), Pigment, (for the color). PVC's, and Plasticizers. When these components are heated to 330 degrees, the oil evaporates and the plasticizers turn the PVC into plastic. There are many variations on the screenprinting process that companies develop to meet their desired quality and their production goals, but in essence, the print on your custom-designed t-shirt is a thin coat of plastic bonded to the fabric of your shirt.
